God Is Saying “Come”: Trusting God in Difficult Times

In the world we are living in today, many people are searching for hope and trying to learn about trusting God in difficult times. High food prices, gas prices, job instability, crime, and wars are everywhere, seemingly drowning us. Many people are afraid, angry, disillusioned, and frustrated. But could it be that we are not willing to take the step to do what we think we cannot do?

The Apostle Paul said in Epistle to the Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Do you believe that? And are you willing to step out on what God is calling you to do? It may be unknown territory, but God is still calling you.

In the Gospel of Matthew 14:24-29, there was a storm, and the disciples were afraid. Jesus came walking on the water, and Peter cried out, “Lord, if it is You, tell me to come unto You on the water.” Peter was trying to verify that it was truly Jesus. When Jesus said, “Come,” Peter stepped out of the boat.

You see, it was easy for Peter to believe that it was Jesus while he was inside the boat. But did he trust that Jesus would cover him once he stepped outside of the boat? That is the same question many of us face today. Are we willing to put our faith into action by trusting Jesus? You cannot just believe God; you must trust God.

We are all comfortable in the “boats” of our lives — our situations, routines, lifestyles, and familiar surroundings. But when you step out of the boat and begin walking toward God, that is when you will hear the wind blow and see the waves crash. Fear begins to speak louder. Doubt tries to creep in. Challenges arise that make you want to turn back. Yet God does not desire to simply come into your boat so you can remain comfortable. He wants you to come to Him outside of your boat.

It is easy to ask God for blessings while staying in the boat. But are you afraid to step out on what God is calling you to do? Sometimes God calls us into places we have never experienced before. Those places can feel uncomfortable and frightening, but they are often where our faith grows the most.

I pastored a church for 26 years, and I became comfortable in what I knew. But when God called me into a new chapter and ministry in my life that I had never experienced before, it was uncomfortable and frightening. Still, I had to get out of my boat for God to give me the blessings He had in store for me. That is why I am now in this ministry called WKB Ministries. I am trusting God for what I have never experienced before.

You cannot ask God to show you something you have never seen before if you are not willing to do something you have never done before. God is saying, “Come.”
