Seek First the Kingdom of God: What Are "All These Other Things"?

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." — Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

One of the most quoted verses in Scripture is Matthew 6:33, yet many believers still ask the same question: What are "all these other things" that Jesus promised?

Some believe it means money, promotions, success, or popularity. Others think it refers to material blessings. While God certainly provides for His children, Jesus was teaching something much deeper. Before we focus on what God adds to our lives, we must first understand what it means to seek the kingdom of God first.

As Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, "To everything there is a season." Every season has a purpose. Rather than chasing temporary rewards, make this season of your life count by pursuing God's will above everything else.

Health Is One of God's Greatest Blessings

One of the "other things" God gives us is the opportunity to enjoy good health and strength.

Your body is a gift from God. Money may provide comfort, but it cannot purchase another body. Without health, many of life's accomplishments lose their joy. Scripture reminds us:

"Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit?" — 1 Corinthians 6:19

Taking care of your physical, emotional, and spiritual health allows you to serve God more effectively. Exercise, rest, healthy eating, and time with the Lord are not selfish—they are wise stewardship of God's gift.

Not Everyone Is Meant to Stay

Another lesson God teaches us is that not everyone will remain in our lives forever.

Some relationships are meant for only one season. Trying to force people to stay can rob you of the peace God wants you to experience. Instead of grieving those who leave, appreciate those whom God has faithfully placed beside you.

Job experienced unimaginable loss, yet he declared:

"Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him." — Job 13:15

Jesus Himself experienced betrayal. Judas Iscariot exchanged his relationship with Christ for thirty pieces of silver. Even though Judas walked away, God's plan continued.

Sometimes people are only meant to be part of one season of our lives. Rather than chasing those who have chosen to leave, thank God for those who remain and continue trusting His plan. As Job declared, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him" (Job 13:15). Even Jesus experienced betrayal when Judas Iscariot chose thirty pieces of silver over his Savior. Judas did not stay, yet God's purpose continued to be fulfilled. Not everyone is meant to walk with you forever, but God will always remain faithful. 

Peace Is More Valuable Than Possessions

In today's world, many people spend their lives pursuing wealth while sacrificing their peace. Yet God's peace is one of the greatest blessings He can give.

A peaceful home...A clear conscience...A quiet heart...A mind resting in God's promises...

These treasures cannot be purchased.

Jesus asked an important question:

"For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?" — Matthew 16:26

Protect your relationship with God before you protect your bank account. True success begins with inner peace that only Christ can provide.

God Gives Us Courage Beyond Our Mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes.

The difference between success and regret is often the willingness to trust God and move forward. Many people spend years looking backward instead of walking into the future God has prepared. Failure is temporary, but living in fear can keep you from fulfilling your calling.

Paul reminds us:

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." — 2 Timothy 1:7

God's grace is greater than your failures. Learn from your mistakes, accept His forgiveness, and continue moving forward with confidence.

What Are "All These Other Things"?

Perhaps the greatest blessings God adds to our lives aren't possessions at all.

They are:

• A heart filled with peace.

• Strength for every season.

• Wisdom to make godly decisions.

• Healthy relationships.

• The courage to overcome fear.

• Joy that circumstances cannot steal.

• Hope for tomorrow.

• A deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

When we seek God's kingdom first, our priorities begin to change. We discover that His presence is worth more than possessions, His purpose is greater than popularity, and His peace is richer than earthly success.

• Choose people who bring peace.

• Choose habits that build strength.

• Choose purpose over pressure.

  
  

Because the most precious things in life are not measured by what we accumulate—they are measured by what we give to others and how faithfully we follow Christ.

So ask yourself today:

What are the "other things" God wants to add to your life?

Seek Him first, trust His timing, and allow Him to provide exactly what you need in every season.
