My Life, My Choice, Through God: Finding Peace During Life’s Transitions

As we transition from summer into fall, September gives us an opportunity to reflect on the life transitions taking place in our lives. Just as the seasons change, our lives go through seasons of transition—mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
There are days when we feel blessed, happy, and content. There are also days when we may feel alone, frustrated, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what lies ahead. These changing emotions are a natural part of life. But there is one thing we can be assured of: God never changes, and His love for us remains constant.
What Can We Control?
So, how do we overcome the difficult seasons of our lives?
I believe we need to identify what we can control and what we cannot control. Learning to focus our energy on the things within our control can help us navigate stressful and challenging moments. NAMI – Managing Stress
There is a poem that says, “God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference between the two.”
Let's identify some things that are in our control and what we cannot control.
Things We Cannot Control
First, I cannot control other people's opinions. We can't please everybody.

I can't control traffic. No matter how frustrated we might become, sometimes we simply have to go with the flow.
I also can't control the weather. I might want sunshine, but it is raining. I have to take what comes.
I can't control the past. I have had some successes and some challenges in the past. All I can do is learn from my challenges and try not to repeat them in the future.
I can't control workplace drama or other people's feelings. I can't allow a supervisor or colleague to control my thinking because this will affect my productivity at work.
Things We Can Control
Second, on the other hand, there are some things within my control.

I can control my own attitude. Don't allow anyone to negatively control your mind and make you act in an inappropriate way.
I can control my own effort and mindset. Be focused on the things you want to accomplish.
And also, I can control how I take care of myself. Exercise, eat healthy food, find time to rest, and have a good prayer life. Stay in communication with the Lord, who is with you always.
Trusting God During Life's Transitions
As we reflect on a new month, let us reflect on the changes that take place in our lives. What is happening on our jobs, in the community, in our homes, and yes, what is happening inside of us is very important.
But if you strive to be true to God and yourself, your negative days can become your steppingstones and not your stumbling blocks.
When life feels uncertain, remember that you don't have to face every challenge alone. Taking time to reflect, pray, and seek guidance can help you move forward with greater peace and purpose.
Make the Most of Today
As we move from day to day, let us remember to take advantage of the days the Lord gives us.
Yesterday is gone. We can't get it back. Tomorrow is a promise, but it is not here yet. All we have is this moment, which we can identify as the “present” because it is a gift from God.

Have a great month in September, and remember the words of Philippians 4:13:
“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
May God continue to guide you, strengthen you, and give you peace as you move through every season of life.
